Return to Sender

A journey through introspection in isolation

Background

What thoughts find us in moments of stillness? When we’re drifting unmoored in the silence, satellites sending signals to stars that may or may not exist. A pair of tired hands sending letters that inevitably return from the void. I have found that to be alone is to be both comforted and terrified, to be suffocated by the familiar and thrown into a wide open sea. But is there something more than fear to be found, when we allow the facade of normalcy and routine to burn away? When we are honest with ourselves?

The Design

This 156-page publication is a collection of my meandering ruminations, their delicate unravelling over the long months of lockdown. These are the thoughts that found me lying awake in the quiet hours, staring up at the sky in my backyard, wandering my sunlit neighbourhood, sitting in the passenger seat of a car with no destination. A mixture of quotes, lyrics, poems, and excerpts from my own diary, these are the moments that taught me how to carry a heart both heavy and light. A hardcover 5” x 8” perfect-bound book, Return to Sender presents an honest experience to readers. For those of us who continue to navigate the emotions of this transitory period emerging from the pandemic, this publication seeks to provide comfort and inspire self-compassion. I hope that those who leaf through its pages will feel less alone.
